Field Practicum 2019

what i did 

  • I assisted the host teacher by helping out with lessons and daily routines throughout the day (transitions, morning walk, movement lesson, story time etc.)

  • I assisted the Chinese and English teachers in organising and preparing the different materials for the Nursery 1 and playgroup lessons 

  • I was tasked to observe one of the children in my allocated class and prepare a detailed report on the child's development and strategies to help support the child's growth 

  • I engaged with the children during free play or movement lessons, ensuring that they are always safe 

What i learned 

  • Strategies to get the children's attention during lessons

  • Different ways to conduct a topic (providing concrete materials, role playing etc.)

  • Proper way and timings of conducting temperature check for the children

  • Proper way of administrating medicine the child is supposed to take (checking dosage and signing of papers)

  • Proper ways of handling food during lunch time and snack time (clean utensils, gloves)

  • The developmental milestones for the different domains of children from 18 months to 27 months 

Challenges

  • Not used to writing anecdotal observations for the first time 

  • Unsure of certain classroom management skills 

  • Facing different types of children with different needs
