What i did

BAND MAJOR

  • Plan and organised a 3 day 2 night Band camp, Graduation Event and Games Day for 60 Band members 

  • Supervised the overnight Band Camp by overseeing all the games and activities, meal time, and welfare of 60 members with my Committee members 

  • Assisted with over a hundred instrument asset check with my teacher-in-charge 

  • Handled attendance of over 60 members  of every band practice twice a week 

  • Supervised the Band by ensuring that instruments and the welfare of the members are taken care of during concerts and performances 

SECTION LEADER

  • Planning and teaching of materials

  • Ensure that the Section is able to play the pieces properly 

  • Encouraging and guiding the section with the help they need in their playing 

Challenges

  • Having to juggle the large amount of leadership roles while maintaining my academics 

  • Having to encourage and ensure that a handful of member who are unmotivated do come to practice 

  • Facing doubts about my leadership skills due to certain small failures during events 

  • Experiencing the lack of commitment and leadership from some committee members 

  • The need to find other solutions to settle certain issues that are unexpected (location for junior band's practice being taken away last minute) 

what i learned 

  • Adaptability to new situations and challenges 

  • Resilience through challenging situations 

  • Communication skills between different individuals 

  • Organisational and planning skills for events 

  • Strong sense of commitment and responsibility to the given leadership role 

ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Certificate of Participation for the Singapore International Band Festival in 2016 

  • Certificate of Accomplishment for the Singapore Youth Festival in 2017

  • Juying Secondary School Colours Awards (Distinction) as Band Major in 2018

  • Represented the school in Chingay 2017 as a Saxophonist, performing in front of the President, Ministers and a large audience

OTHER LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

  • Part of 30 selected students in the entire cohort for L.E.A.D camp 2016 in Pulau Ubin, experiencing a new environment to learn more about teamwork and leadership 

  • Part of a selected handful of students in the entire cohort to have a leadership Outward Bound Singapore Camp 2017 experience in Pulau Ubin 

  • Part of Juying Secondary School Open House in 2017, bringing parents and potential students around the school for a tour 

  • Part of the EXCO committee member as leader for Cheers for 2018 Secondary 1 Orientation Camp where I planned and organised events with all the members and was in charge of lunch, dinner, campfire and overall cheering throughout the days of the camp
